Weekend update

We took it slow on Saturday - it was COLD! Brrr.... just a few trips on the chairlifts convinced us that we should save our warmth for the air show! The Saturday night air show was excellent - and watched by a far larger crowd than we would have guessed.

Sunday - now that was a treat - we awoke to a surprise dump of fresh snow! Jesse and Sophie spent the day with their funatics group. Lp and I found fresh, untracked, knee deep powder all over the mountain. It was heavenly.

It has been a steady diet of snow all week while we all suffer through the MontCas testing. We truly can't wait to get back out there on Friday night!!!

Tough Decisions...

We have been Talking and Talking and Talking about how exciting it is to go to the Outrageous Air Show at Schweitzer - since at least the very first day of school. So when it became apparent that it was going to be ultra-polar this Friday, I went into denial. Of course, we canceled the school ski trip. But it was agonizing. But facts are facts.... our students just don't have the right clothing to stand outside in zero degree weather.
My family is even spending its first Friday night at home since I don't know when... it might even be our first Friday night in Troy in 2011. But cold is cold.
Nevertheless, we will head over early tomorrow morning in search of that beautiful powder that dropped this week. And we'll bundle up to watch the air show tomorrow night. Stay tuned for pics! (and maybe a bit of video....)

Spring Break

Assuming our new passports arrive in the next week or so...
We have some decision making to do.
Spring Break.
A Canada road trip or stay at home? It is hard to motivate to drive long distances and spend lots of $ when we have a great home mountain, passes and lots of snow. But it would be really exciting to experience some new mountains.
The following links are places we are considering exploring....
Kicking Horse
Revelstoke
red mountain
more thoughts on these to come....

Crazy Wind!

Saturday brought a crazy wind to the higher elevations at Schweitzer. Travel across the ridges really helped "internalize" the meaning of WINTER!

WINDY Saturday 2.19.11

Saturday at Schweitzer may have been the craziest wind I have ever experienced. It was howling straight up the mountain. Both the North ridge and the south ridge were metaphors for Mt. Everest! It looked like boiling steam dancing across the ridges. Beautiful with the sun shining through... but truly intense when up close and personal. The pelting ice crystals made it almost unbearable - thank goodness for face masks!
Check out the pics and video!

Friday Night Skiing with the School

The Troy Powderhounds held their fourth night skiing trip on Friday February 18th. About 40 kids enjoyed a gorgeous and relatively warm evening of skiing. Big grins across the mountain.
